Fit to Play Policy
Infectious Children / Infection Control
Communicable diseases are common among pre-school children and our environment often presents an ideal situation for diseases to spread. Some diseases may present a risk to others such as pregnant women and children may need to be excluded.
Many different illnesses present themselves as raised temperatures, headaches or colds before you know what they are, so:
CHILDREN WHO ARE UNWELL SHOULD NOT ATTEND PRE-SCHOOL
Some children may have medical conditions that make them particularly vulnerable to infections. The parents of such children should be warned if there are cases of infectious diseases in pre-school especially cases of chicken pox, measles and shingles. Remember one sick child can lead to 29 more sick children & 6 sick members of staff.
Children & staff with diarrhoea, vomiting should not attend and should not return until they have been symptom free for 48 hours.
Children who have been prescribed antibiotics can usually return to pre-school before they have completed the course, providing they are well.
There are some general rules about the exclusion of children from childcare settings. Please see attachments for more of our guidelines thank you.
