Conjunctivitis
This is an infection of the outer structures of the eye and the inside of the eyelid, which may be caused by several different organisms. The first signs of infection are excessive watering, redness of the white of the eye and irritation, followed by swelling and possible discharge of puss.
Although it often gets better by itself eye drops or ointment may be used. The infection can be spread between people by direct contact. Children under the age of 5 are most often affected.
Because children of this age play very close together with frequent physical contact, it is the policy of Groombridge Pre-school to exclude children with conjunctivitis.
This policy is known, agreed and implemented by all staff.
