Staffing Policy
We believe that a high adult to child ratio is essential in providing good quality pre-school care.
The Pre-school believes in the importance of staff training. All the staff have NVQs making us professionals in this, most important stage of education. It has been found that quality of provision is directly related to the qualifications of the staff. All staff are committed to further training to continue to improve their knowledge and practice. We endeavour to access as much training as possible. All are DBS checked. All have 1st aid. All have attended child protection 1 & 2.
It is in the interest of the Pre School, the children and the individual, that each member of staff will be given the opportunity to develop their personal skills to their maximum and to broaden their knowledge and skills in caring for children.
Employment
We seek to promote equality of opportunity and to eliminate discrimination as defined under the terms of the Race Relations Act, Equal Pay Act, Sex Discrimination Act and the Disability Discrimination Act, in all our employment procedures and practices.
References will be taken up and induction training will be undertaken. All new staff will be provided with a staff handbook within the first two weeks of employment.
Staff will have an annual review, with termly supervision meetings where they will be invited to discuss their training and development needs with the supervisor.
Regular staff meetings provide opportunities for staff to undertake curriculum planning, discuss children's progress and any difficulties and all other day-to-day matters.
Staff Development
We hold regular staff meetings and encourage staff to take advantage of external training courses. Following attending a course staff should pass on their experience and knowledge to those less experienced.
We have a positive culture of learning and evaluation. We encourage less experienced staff to learn from their colleagues and recognise them as role models. Our training plan addressing both qualifications and the development needs of the Pre School and the individual staff.
