MAINTAINING CHILDREN’S SAFETY AND SECURITY ON THE PREMISES

POLICY STATEMENT

The following procedures are in place in order to maintain the highest possible security of the setting ensuring that each child is safely cared for during their time within Pre-school.

PROCEDURES

We ensure all employed staff have been checked for criminal records by an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosures and Barring Services.

We ensure that the Chairs and all of the Committee have DBS checks.

All children are supervised by adults at all times.

Children are always in sight.

Whenever children are on the premises, at least two adults are present.

We carry out daily risk assessments in order to check all procedures are in place.

Procedures are in place for the safe arrival and departure of children.  Prior to opening, all internal doors will be locked and alarmed.  The door in the corridor will be open but with the stair gate closed so that parents/carers can access the toilets.  The lock to the Club Room will be inserted.

The gate and main entrance are only unlocked at pre-determined dropping off and picking up times and will be manned at all times by a designated member of staff.  The gate should never be propped open and should be shut behind each user. The gate and main entrance will be locked at 9.15am, the bell can be used for late arrivals.  The gate will be unlocked five minutes before the next collection times – 11.55am, 12.55pm and 2.55pm.  If for any unforeseen reason the bell is not working (dead battery), the staff may be contacted by phone on 01892 861113.

Late drop off and collection times will be recorded in the register.

If anyone unfamiliar to staff is picking up a child there must be a pre-arranged password agreed with the child’s parent/carer in order for staff to identify the adult which will be stored in the collection file. If the adult does not know the password then the parent/carer will be contacted to verify that we have their permission to hand over their child.

The above procedures are in place to prevent children from leaving our premises unnoticed and to prevent unauthorised access to the setting.

Personal possessions of staff and volunteers are securely stored during sessions.  Mobile phones are not permitted on the premises unless we are going on an outing or using the device to play music.

This policy is known, agreed and implemented by all staff.
