Late Collection Policy
Parents are asked to collect children promptly at the end of a session. If a child is not collected on time, we have an obligation to stay with any uncollected children at the end of the session, until that child is collected. Two members of staff must remain at the nursery until the last child has been collected.
Pre-school sessions are run as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings 9:00 – 12:00
Thursday morning 9:00 – 12:00 or 13:00
Wednesday & Friday afternoons 12:00- 15:00.
It is the parent/carers responsibility to make sure that their child/children are collected promptly at the end of each session. Parents should arrive at or before 12:00pm, 13:00pm or 15:00 as appropriate. Late collection occurs when a parent/carer arrives AFTER the appropriate time (i.e. from 12:01, 13:01 or 15:01). We do appreciate that emergencies happen and we will do our best to support parents/carers,
If a parent/carer is unable to collect their child/children, they must make alternative arrangements for the collection of their child/children and inform pre-school as soon as practically possible.
The pre-school will not release the child to an unauthorised person, even if the collection is late, unless an authorised person telephones to state that because of an emergency a different person will be collecting. The authorised person should give the name and address and a physical description of the unauthorised person together with a password and the supervisor should check this description before permitting the child to leave.
In the event of a parent/carer failing to collect their child and the staff having not been notified of any difficulty, the Supervisor and one other has a duty to wait with the child for a maximum of 30 minutes and then to inform Social Services. In the interim period the Supervisor will try to contact the parent, the emergency contact number or a known friend/neighbour of the family.
The Supervisor is not allowed to take the child home.
The supervisor will not remain alone with the child.
It would seem that other settings all charge for late collection at a given rate for every 5 minutes (or part thereof) that the parent/carer is late, as shown on pre-school clocks. While we do not have a late collection charge we reserve the right to charge one for persistent late collection.
