Education and Learning

Learning should be fun!

Staff should be enthusiastic, supportive and kind.

Curriculum:

All children will be respected and their individuality and potential recognised, valued and nurtured. Activities and the use of play equipment offer children opportunities to develop in an environment free from prejudice and discrimination.

Appropriate opportunities will be given to children to explore, acknowledge and value similarities and differences between themselves and others.

We ensure total coverage of the Foundation Stage Curriculum and that the activities provide many opportunities for play and for children to learn through play through self selection of their activities.

Building on knowledge and skills already acquired and making sure that each child is being stretched and able to reach their own potential.

The pre-school aims to provide a differentiated curriculum, relating learning targets, tasks, resources and learning support to individual children’s needs in order to maximise their achievement and progress. The pre-school plans for the needs of the individual child using the Foundation Stage Curriculum Guidance.

Special Needs:

The pre-school recognises that children have a wide range of needs which differ from time to time, and will consider what part it can play in meeting these needs as they arise.

Planning for pre-school meetings and events will take into account the needs of people with special educational needs and disabilities.

We feel it is essential that the children with SEN are taught in a fully inclusive classroom and their needs are met within the curriculum being planned. We recognise however the need for additional resources. We will work in partnership with the parents and outside agencies.  See our SEN policy.

Resources:

Management of resources within the pre-school will ensure that both girls and boys have full access to all kinds of activities and equipment and are equally encouraged to enjoy and learn from them.

There is a wide range of high quality resources that reflect not only the immediate community but also give opportunities for the children to explore to the wider world around them.

These will be chosen to give children a balanced view of the world and an appreciation of the rich diversity of our multi-racial society.

Materials will be selected to help children to develop their self-respect and to respect other people by avoiding stereotypes and by using images and words, which reflect positively the contribution of all members of society.

The children are able to select their own resources or choose from an album always available which shows our equipment
