Chicken Pox

Chickenpox may start with a headache and a temperature but the rash itself maybe the first sign of illness.  The rash appears as small red ‘pimples’ within a few hours the pimples become blisters which begin to dry & crust within about 2 hours.  The rash appears in succession of ‘crops’ over 3-5 days.

Chickenpox spread from person to person by contact with the blister of air borne droplets.  It is highly infectious for 1 to 2 days before the rash appears and for 5 days after the appearance of the spots.

Because children of this age play very close together with frequent physical contact, our policy at Groombridge Pre-School is that staff or

Children with chickenpox must stay away from pre-school until 5 days after the last spot appears AND they have crusted over.

This policy is known, agreed and implemented by all staff.
